Heavy rain in San Francisco, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties has prompted the weather service to issue a flood advisory that will be in effect until 7:45 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting several incidences of flooding on area roadways, including U.S. Highway 101 in San Francisco at Cesar Chavez Street, westbound Interstate Highway 80 at Gilman Street, and roadways throughout Marin and Solano counties.

Motorists should not attempt to drive cross standing water when it covers the roadway.

Heavy rains may cause elevated water levels in small creeks and streams, according to the weather service.
