A dispute that began in a Sunset District restaurant this afternoon resulted in a fatal shooting witnessed by two San Francisco police officers, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded to the shooting at 4:37 p.m. in front of the Pho Huynh Hiep 2 restaurant at 1833 Irving St.

Police Officer Boaz Mariles said the victim and the suspect, both men in their 20s, were involved in a verbal altercation in the restaurant that continued into the street.

“It started in the restaurant and then spilled out into the street, and that’s where the shooting took place,” Mariles said.

Two police officers witnessed the shooting, apprehended the suspect and rendered aid to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Mariles said.

Mariles said officers have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the slaying.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family, the San Francisco medical examiner’s office said tonight.

The shooting marks the ninth homicide in the city this year, Mariles said.
