A 26-year-old Pittsburg man was arrested early this morning in connection with the brutal attack and robbery of a taxi driver Monday night near San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood.

Bruce Griffin, who was on parole for robbing another cab driver in the Mission District in 2003, was arrested at about 1:40 a.m. at Post and Larkin streets and has been booked into jail in San Francisco for robbery and attempted homicide, police said.

The attack happened at about 7:15 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of States Street. Griffin, who was a passenger in the cab, allegedly beat the cabbie and stabbed him several times in the face and the chest before robbing him, police said.

The driver’s injuries were considered life-threatening, but police have since said his condition has improved.

Police said investigative leads and a citywide search by officers from all district stations based on the suspect’s description led to the arrest.
