For two days beginning Monday, low-income families will be able to pick out free toys for their children at a simulated toy store at the Salvation Army’s Family Services Center in San Francisco.
The annual program, “Toy & Joy Shop,” allows thousands of parents to “shop” for several gifts for their children, as well as receive a box of food with a chicken or turkey, powdered milk, rice, fresh vegetables and canned goods, event officials said.
The Family Services Center is transformed into a toy store for the occasion and clients are given a designated time and a “personal shopper” to select their Christmas presents and food, according to event officials.
The two-day event will take place Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Family Services Center, located at 520 Jessie St.
