San Francisco motorists should expect traffic delays for the next six weeks on Van Ness Avenue between Market and McAllister streets because the road’s surface is being repaved.

Starting tonight, the construction will be done from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists are advised to avoid the area under construction during peak traffic hours because only two lanes will be open to traffic.

The resurfacing should be done by Thanksgiving if the weather permits, the Department of Public Works said.
