4:17 PM: Per SFist, CBS5’s live traffic cam tells a terrible tale. Appeal staffer Tim Ehhalt, who was traveling from the East Bay back to the City, texts “Bridge won’t even be clear till 5:30. Getting off and routing through Marin.”

3:00 PM (BCN): A big-rig has overturned this afternoon on the westbound Bay Bridge mid-span and is blocking four out of five lanes, CHP spokesman Shawn Chase said.

The crash, reportedly involving a Safeway truck, occurred just after 2:30 p.m. at the new S-curve section of the bridge, Chase said.

He said only the left lane remains open.

According to Chase, the top of the truck’s trailer ripped open, spilling its contents onto the road.

Chase said it could take at least an hour to clear the roadway.
