Trailer slightly NSFW because of excessive violence.

Eyes gouged out with a stick. Boob hypnotism. Rock ballads interlaced with katana porn. Zombie samurai. Pregnant witch. Slicing through bullets. Do I really have to explain why you would enjoy this film?

The East meets the Wild West in Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf, a “sushi western” directed by and starring Kurando Mitsutake. Inspired by Zatoichi films, Samurai Avenger plays a delicate balancing act between cheese and really cool. There are long death scenes in which character explain all amid oozing blood and dramatic coughs. One female assassin fights barebreasted, otherwise clad in red (possibly) pleather corset and long skirt. Blood sprays from wounds, and in one memorable scene, blood itself becomes a weapon.

The story follows the Blind Wolf, a blind samurai out for vengeance after his wife and kid were murdered at the hands of Nathan Flesher. Now, on Flesher’s day of release from prison, Blind Wolf has to get through seven assassins before he can finally destroy his nemisis. “It’s not all tits ‘n’ murder,” co-producer and co-writer John Migdal said. After all, there’s a studly, bicep-orama Jeffrey James Lippold to play the Wolf’s sidekick.

Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf plays at the Another Hole in the Head film festival again tonight at 9:30 p.m. at the Roxie Theatre.
