Newsom made the call at Newsweek’s Third Annual “Global Environmental Leadership Conference”

annual “Global Environmental Leadership Conference” in Washington, D.C. The
conference focused on achieving energy independence by 2020 and the future
of the automotive industry

“The car industry must be reinvented and automakers must move quicker to
hybrids, which have been on the market since 1999. We’re going to have to
dramatically re-imagine the automobile industry, and the problem is we’re
