….but what will they do with the T-Third MUNI line if they rename Third Street after Willie Brown? Gavin Newsom got some major sucking-up in for the former SF mayor’s 75th birthday when he presented Willie Brown with a sign that said “Willie J. Brown Jr. Blvd” and a promise to rename Third Street after him. Check this Newsom quote out!

All of us in San Francisco owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude, and in this state, for your contributions, and I think it’s utterly appropriate that the gratitude extend now very publicly, very visually, in an area of town that you have championed and you have fought for and that you’ve brought new life and innovation.

Oooooh, kiss-kiss-kiss, I wuv you Willie Brown! Now will you support me for governor??

Well, I for one can’t wait to see who puts in the construction bids to change the street signs if this goes through (note: to forestall precisely this line of jokes, Newsom’s folks have announced that if the name change goes through, they will do all fundraising through private donors) — though I also like the suggestion in one in the Chron letters to the editor saying that Willie Brown should just change his name to Third Street instead. Honestly, the jokes just write themselves (“name Lombard Street after him, crookedest street in SF.”).

The approval’s still gotta go through the Board of Supes before it can happen, though — and we’re sure Brown’s long-time nemesis Supervisor Chris Daly‘s going to have something to say about it. (oh please please please please, Chris Daly — have something to say about this!!!) It will always be Third Street to me.
