UPDATE: Authorities have announced the name of the victim of Wednesday night’s fatal motorcycle crash: 23-year-old James Gavel, of Daly City. CBS has an image from the crash here.

We first heard the news from Emergency_In_SF: “Motorcycle just flew over the side of SB 101 Freeway & landed in UPS parking lot at 15th St & San Bruno. Patient DOA.”

We’ve since gotten a few more details: asthe Chron noted in their brief, the crash happened around 8:25 last night on 101 right before the 80 exchange (just south of 10th). We’ve since learned that, according to CHP spokesman Shawn Chase, “It appears he was going too fast and he came around the sweeping right turn there and collided with the guard rail.”

Chase also said that the motorcyclist has been identified as 23-year-old Daly City man (his name has not been released pending notification of his family) riding a 2009 Harley Davidson. He did not survive the 50 foot fall onto the Caltrans parking lot at San Bruno Avenue and 15th Street, Chase said.
