MAYOR NEWSOM CELEBRATES THE 2ND ANNIVERSARY OF SAN FRANCISCO’S 311 CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Today marked the 2nd anniversary of San Francisco’s 311
Customer Service Center. 311 is a one-stop service providing an
easy-to-remember telephone number that connects residents, businesses, and
visitors to Customer Service Representatives ready to help with government
information and services. The 311 Customer Service Center, launched by
Mayor Gavin Newsom in March 2007, serves callers in more than 170 languages
and to date has answered more than 5.5 million calls. Customers can now
also request information and report issues to 311 online at
http://www.sfgov.org/311.

Residents and visitors can use 311 to request information on City services
and report issues including, graffiti, potholes, street cleaning, abandoned
vehicles and broken streetlights. Using state-of-the-art Customer
Relationship Management technology (CRM) service requests are created and
assigned to the appropriate City Departments. Customers are provided with a
tracking number for follow up and to receive updated information about
their request. City Administrator Ed Lee credits the 311’s CRM System with
helping City Departments become more responsive and accountable to citizen
requests.
