Just over a week ago, it was that magical time of year when the entire cast of GI Joe could be seen sharing a few pitchers of Margaritas at Chevy’s and Superman could actually be found helping old women across the street like the overgrown boy scout he is. No, we aren’t experiencing a collapse of the space-time-childhood continuum, it was Wondercon, San Francisco’s largest comic book convention.

This Appeal staffer spent the day searching through the dollar bins, thumbing through trade paperbacks (Particularly Y, DMZ, Doom Patrol), hunting for the new issue of Scott Pilgrim, and snapping photos of some of Wondercon’s best costumes and celebrities. Like The Gorn, for instance, and the stormtrooper who said “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Yeah. That guy. So here’s to Wondercon. Sadly, our dear metropolis will have to wait a full year before it’s once again under the protection of ersatz superheroes.
