San Francisco’s long-time Union Square drinking spot, the Gold Dust Lounge, was poised to reopen in a new Fisherman’s Wharf location next week, but the opening has been pushed back by at least a few weeks, a bar publicist said.
The anticipated opening on Jan. 11 at 165 Jefferson St. will be postponed, in part, because of delays in recreating the original Gold Dust ceiling mural that depicts cherubs and other angel-like figures among clouds, according to bar publicist Lee Houskeeper.
The new 2,700-square-foot space at Fisherman’s Wharf will attempt to recreate the well-known Powell Street bar, which shut down last spring after the bar’s owners, the Bovis family, lost the lease at the building after 79 years of operation.
Opening weekend parties slated for Jan. 11, 12 and 13 will be held at a later date that will be announced on Jan. 11, Houskeeper said.
Those who RSVPed for opening events will receive an email with rescheduling information, according to Houskeeper.
