9 PM: The Embarcadero BART station is closed this evening after a man died on the tracks in an apparent suicide, a BART spokesperson said.
Witnesses say a white male jumped in front of a westbound train at 7:48 Saturday night, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.
The victim has since been identified as San Francisco playwright Paul Addis, updated story is here.
The station is closed for an investigation of the incident, Allison said. He did not have any information on when the station might be reopened.
Trains are passing through the station without stopping. Passengers wishing to board or disembark BART in the area should use Montgomery Station, Allison said.
8:10 PM: According to BART, trains in both directions are not stopping at the Embarcadero Station due to a person beneath a train.
As of 8:05 PM, riders on the Daly City Line in the SFO, Millbrae and East Bay directions should expect major delays, BART officials said.
According to a BART dispatcher, the incident occurred at 7:50 PM. Additional information was not provided by BART at publication time.
