2:50 PM: The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission this afternoon completed repairs on a 100-year-old water main that ruptured earlier today, flooding streets and disrupting water service in Fisherman’s Wharf.
The agency received a report at about 4:30 a.m. of an active water leak on Mason Street between Jefferson and Beach streets, SFPUC spokeswoman Alison Kastama said.
Water spewing from the ruptured 8-inch-diameter cast iron main filled the street and spilled over onto sidewalks, but Kastama said it did not appear that the water infiltrated nearby businesses.
Crews worked to determine the leak’s origin in the main and, as of 1 p.m., had restored regular water service to the two affected blocks–the 100 block of Jefferson Street and the 2600 block of Mason Street, Kastrama said.
Those streets had been closed to traffic during the cleanup and repair efforts, according to the SFPUC.
9:30 AM: The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is working to clean up a mess in Fisherman’s Wharf caused by a water main that ruptured this morning.
SFPUC spokeswoman Alison Kastama said the agency received a report at about 4:30 a.m. of an active water leak on Mason Street between Jefferson and Beach streets.
As of 9 a.m., crews were on site working to determine the leak’s origin in the 8-inch cast-iron water main.
“We have to listen to where the water is leaking in the pipe,” Kastama said.
Water spewing from the ruptured main filled the street and spilled over onto sidewalks, but Kastama said it did not appear that the water infiltrated nearby businesses.
The rupture, however, has left the nearby Radisson Hotel without water service, which Kastama said the SFPUC hopes to restore by about 3 p.m.
The 100 block of Jefferson Street and the 2600 block of Mason Street have been closed to traffic during the cleanup and repair efforts, Kastama said.
