police-light-bar1.jpgThe Alameda County coroner’s bureau has identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by oncoming traffic on Interstate Highway 80 in Albany on Saturday night.

Willy Alfils, a 51-year-old San Francisco resident, was pursued by the California Highway Patrol in his vehicle on I-80 shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday, CHP Officer Chris Pothier said.

CHP chased Alfils east on I-80 after identifying him as a suspected drunken driver, Pothier said.

Alfils allegedly stopped his vehicle on the highway, jumped out and took off running, and was hit by an oncoming car, Pothier said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who hit Alfils pulled over after the collision, Pothier said.
