SF’s Animal Care & Control shelter needs your help. Due to what they describe as “an unprecedented and severe dog overcrowding situation,” the ACC is asking anyone considering giving up their dog to wait, for those who find stray dogs to hang on to them, and for those who can temporarily house dogs to act as “foster pet owners.”
According to ACC spokesperson Deb Campbell, “The shelter is now at maximum capacity and has no kennel space available for incoming dogs,” which has been taking in 25 more dogs per month than in previous years.
Those able to temporarily house dogs should call Animal Care & Control at (415) 554-6364. Their phone line is available every day from 10am to 6pm. Those who find stray dogs are asked to contact the shelter to fill out a “Found Dog Report” but to keep them until the shelter has room to accept them.
And, of course, you can always help reduce their overcrowding by taking a pup home with you — their adoption fees are being reduced by 50% through September 12. The fees, which include spaying or neutering, microchips, shots to date, as well as a SF Dog License and free veterinarian exam usually cost between $135-175.
Those who can’t adopt or foster but still want to help are encouraged to donate to The Friends of Animal Care & Control. Either visit their website at www.helpacc.org or send a check made out to FSFACC to 1200 15th St. in SF, 94103.
