dogs.hotel.jpgAs poorly-tended grills flare and fireworks blare this 4th of July weekend, many animals panic, facing a scenario they don’t really understand. That’s why SF Animal Care and Control urges you to keep your pets safe at home while you have fun with your possibly unsafe and insane illegal firework-burning, Red, White and Blueberry cakes or even unexciting sparklers.

The agency says that pet owners should leave Fluffy, Fido, or Larry the lizard in a safe enclosed area at home as the sights and sounds of fireworks can cause them to panic and possibly escape.

And just in case, ACC says, make sure your pets have identification tags visible at all times, and get your pets are microchipped, so any lost friends can make their way back to you. As Kat Brown, Deputy Director of San Francisco Animal Care And Control warns “we’ve seen too many sad endings that could have been prevented.”

According to spokesperson Deb Campbell, “even normally calm animals can be adversely affected by the patriotic celebrations that we humans enjoy so much.” And even normally calm humans know patriotism can be scary!

But taking these little steps might make things a little bit better for your furry pals. So leave the pets at home this year, so you can enjoy your holiday celebration without worrying about Spot having an emotional breakdown, or worse.
