policeblotter_sfa.jpgLast Friday, SFFD made a grisly discovery while battling a brush fire in Buena Vista Park. The fire, which firefighters responded to at 4:39am, led firefighters to a recycling bin where they found the partially burned body of a corpse. Now, nearly a week later, the investigation continues, but little progress appears to have been made.

As previously reported, police were investigating the death as “suspicious” and actively seeking tips for their investigation.

According to the Bay Area Reporter, which notes that the park “has been known as a popular gay cruising site,” the dead man has yet to be identified, described only as a 20-year-old white man.

“Police don’t have suspects in the case, and the type of weapon used and the victim’s injuries aren’t known,” the BAR reports, quoting a SFPD spokesperons as saying that “It’s still very early in the investigation…We’re really waiting on the coroner to make some basic determinations.”

The medical examiner’s office is now turning to DNA or dental records to identify the deceased.

Police are “asking anyone who saw something, or heard anything like screams or screeching tires, even ‘anything they may have thought was nothing,’ to call the homicide unit” at (415) 553-1145, the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444, or text a tip to 847411 and type SFPD, then the message. The case number is 110467285
