biernoff_poster61.jpgPosters depicting key moments in San Francisco history will be decorating bus shelters on Market Street beginning today.

Each of six posters in the 2011 Art on Market Street Poster Series – titled “Once Upon a Time” – focuses on a phase of San Francisco history and includes a map of the Market Street area that shows the sites of lost landmarks, according to the San Francisco Arts Commission.

The images were created by San Francisco-based artist Elishvea Biernoff.

“The posters are not meant to offer a comprehensive look at San Francisco history, but are rather suggestive of the various eras and phases the city has gone through,” Biernoff said in a statement.

The posters will be on display in bus shelters on Market Street between Eighth Street and the Embarcadero through July 29.
