pg&e_meter.jpgA small group is protesting the installation of PG&E SmartMeters today in San Francisco’s Marina District, a protester said.

About eight people gathered at about 10 a.m. around a truck from Wellington Energy Inc., the company that PG&E contracts to install the SmartMeters, organizer November Alexis said.

Police arrived at the protest, which is happening near Avila and Prado streets, at about 10:15 a.m. and instructed the protesters to move so the truck could get through, Alexis said.

She said the group retreated at about 10:30 a.m. to 101 Cervantes Blvd., where SmartMeters are scheduled to be installed by noon.

The protesters were yelling and holding signs reading “Stop PG&E SmartMeters” and “Democracy of choice,” Alexis said.

Police Lt. Troy Dangerfield confirmed that a small protest is under way and said no problems have been reported.
