snowball.jpgAlthough we SFians managed to avoid Snowcalypse, the Deep South Snow Storm, and just about any other winter disaster that hit the country this year, it seems our number is up. The weather gods have spoken and so have Mayor Lee and other “City Officials”: be prepared for severe cold weather unlike anything you’ve seen before!

Over the next several days, the Mayor and friends say in a statement sent to media headed “MAYOR LEE ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO PREPARE FOR SEVERE COLD WEATHER,” you need to prepare for precipitation, possible freezing conditions and maybe even snow (are you as tired of hearing about snow as we are?), as well as icy roads and flooding.

Mayor Lee urges calm, however, telling residents that “city agencies are working together to ensure that homes and businesses are protected and the public is safe during these severe weather storms. Crews are on stand-by and will monitor roads for potential flooding and other hazardous conditions and respond to any emergencies throughout the duration of the storms.” In other words, we got this.

The city also expects an increase in need of shelter for homeless individuals, and says they are working with the Red Cross to increase their outreach so everyone who needs it can receive services.

The Department of Public Works has been offering free sandbags to residents and businesses and will continue doing so at 2323 Cesar Chavez (you can enter at Kansas and Marin St.).

If you’re having problems with street flooding, knocked down trees, power outages, and all sorts of weather-related things, dial 311.

For issues with electricity and natural gas, call good old PG&E at 800-743-5002.

Although the weather seems dire, residents should only call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.
