There’s been a lot of talk about what would replace San Francisco’s three shuttered Delano’s grocery stores. While the former Mission IGA is slated to become a Fresh and Easy, Mollie Stone’s market has finally confirmed that they will be taking over the former Delano’s location at 4201 18th Street at Castro Street.
As Appeal pal and Castro denizen Violet Blue noted when her nabe’s Delano’s closed in November, the “Castro is home to people who physically can’t walk or drive to Safeway,” which is located blocks away at Church and Market. So this is likely welcome news to the residents there, who’ve been without a neighborhood grocery store since last year.
This will be the third SF location for the Mill Valley-based retailer. They plan to open, they say in a statement sent to the Appeal today but dated last week, in “early March,” just as Grub Street predicted last month.
