District Attorney Kamala D. Harris announced Thursday that 36-year-old Darren Hayes will be charged with nine felony counts for a slew of alleged sexual assaults on his underage stepdaughter.
Here’s the break down:
⢠4 felony counts for aggravated sexual assault of a child
⢠1 felony count for continuous sexual abuse
⢠2 felony counts for sexual penetration with a child ages 10-14
⢠1 felony count for oral copulation with child ages 10-14
⢠1 felony county for a lewd act upon a child
According to court records, Hayes was arrested November 13, 2009 after his stepdaughter told the police that he had sexually abused her from age 6 to age 11. He pled not guilty to this charge on November 17, 2009 and has been in custody since with a bail set at $4 million.
During Hayes’ preliminary hearing on Tuesday, the judge concluded that there was sufficient evidence to move the case forward to a trial, which is scheduled to begin on July 27.
