All aboard in the Richmond District!

Tomorrow, the annual Garden Railway exhibit opens at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. It’s a miniature railway complete with living landscape and miniature landmarks that celebrate the park’s 140th anniversary. Small scale replicas of the Music Concourse, Stow Lake boat house, the carousel and more – all made from recycled/repurposed materials. Get a sneak peek.

In development news this week, Safeway shared its updated plans for the remodel of the La Playa/Ocean Beach store. They incorporated a lot of changes to address concerns from the neighbors that live on three sides of the supermarket – watch a video tour.

The property at 32nd & Clement, formerly an Albertson’s, is also moving towards occupancy with co-tenants CVS Pharmacy and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market. CVS goes before the Planning Commission next month and Fresh & Easy is starting to hire for the new location which will be their first in San Francisco.

Someone got cheeky on the former Kragen Auto Parts at 25th and Geary. They put up a poster for a “Do-it-Urself Crematorium”, people and pets welcomed. We just had to get to the bottom of this one…

And in do-gooder news this week, the Richmond District Neighborhood Center recently celebrated 30 years of service in the community and in public schools. Speaking of schools, legendary crooner Johnny Mathis recently donated $5,000 to the marching band of his alma mater, George Washington High School.

Have a great weekend everyone!
