4/6 10:08 PM: According to a report from Bay City News, SFPD spokesperson Officer Samson Chan has said that “Preliminary information indicates that a mechanical failure may have been a factor,” in Tuesday afternoon’s accident in which an F Market streetcar traveling at about 5 MPH rear ended a 10 Townsend, which then hit a car, at Market and Second.
Chan says that he’s basing those remarks on a statement from the driver of the streetcar and a “preliminary investigation looking at the mechanical functions of the brake.”
We also have an updated victim count: 5 people, including the drivers of both Muni vehicles, were hospitalized, and an additional 7 were treated at the scene. None of the injuries are considered life threatening.
4/6 6:44 PM: According to a broadcast report from CBS5, this accident has left 10 people injured, after, they say, the F Market streetcar rear ended a car and the 10 Townsend bus as they were waiting at a red light.
CBS says that of the 10 injured, 5 have been taken to local hospitals.
4/6 6:04 PM: According to an alert sent by the Sf MTA, at 4:41 a F Market streetcar and a westbound 10 Townsend bus collided at 2nd and Market, injuring an unknown number of people.
Bus shuttles are running in place of the streetcar between the Ferry Building and 11th Street.
