A bridge sergeant talked a middle-aged man off the ledge of the Golden Gate Bridge Monday evening, according to U.S. Coast Guard and California Highway Patrol officials.
The man had climbed over the rail mid-span at about 7:30 p.m. on the city side of the bridge, officials said.
He was apparently planning to jump, but a bridge sergeant was able to talk him into coming back over the rail.
The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for observation, and his car was towed for storage, according to the CHP.
It was not immediately clear which responding agency talked the man out of jumping, but Marin County CHP officers were on the scene.
