2:12 PM: A bomb squad was called to the State Building on McAllister Street in San Francisco this morning to investigate a report of a suspicious package that turned out to be an empty suitcase, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The call came in at about 10:30 a.m. from the State Building at 350 McAllister St. The CHP oversees security at the building.

The suitcase was spotted near an elevator in the building’s secured underground garage, CHP Officer Shawn Chase said.

A San Francisco sheriff’s bomb-sniffing dog inspected the suitcase and the Police Department’s bomb squad then X-rayed it and determined it was empty, Chase said.

No evacuations were ordered and the bomb squad left the scene by 12:15 p.m. The owner of the suitcase has not been located, Chase said.

12:16 PM: A bomb squad has been called the State Building on McAllister Street in San Francisco.

Polk Street has been shut down between McAllister Street and Golden Gate Avenue.

At about noon, a San Francisco police bomb squad and firefighters were still at the scene but appeared to be preparing to leave.

The activity appeared to be centered around the State Building at 350 McAllister St.
