Holiday Traffic and Transit Disruptions: Muni Schedule Changes, Holiday Parking Enforcement, Critical Mass

Muni Schedule for Holiday Weeks

Thursday, December 25 and next Thursday, January 1, 2015:  Christmas Day and New Year’s Day respectively, Muni will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Friday, December 26 and next Friday, January 2, 2015:  The day after Christmas and the day after New Year respectively, Muni will operate on a regular weekday schedule to provide service for those visiting and shopping in the city.  There will be no express bus service for these two days.

The following Muni express routes will not operate:

  • 1 BX California B” Express
  • 14X Mission Express
  • 16X Noriega Express
  • 30X Marina Express
  • 31AX Balboa A Express
  • 31BX Balboa B Express
  • 38AX Geary A Express
  • 38BX Geary B Express
  • 41 Union (AM and PM)
  • 81X Caltrain Express
  • 82X Caltrain Express
  • 83X Caltrain Express
  • 88 BART Shuttle
  • NX N Judah Express

From Monday, December 29 through Wednesday, December 31:  Muni will operate with modified express service on selected rush hour express routes in response to lower passenger demand during this time of the year.

Modified Service and Frequencies

  • 1AX California A Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 1BX California B” Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 14X Mission Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 16X Noriega Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 30X Marina Express – Service approximately every 10 minutes
  • 31AX Balboa A Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 31BX Balboa B Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 38AX Geary A Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 38BX Geary B Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes
  • 41 Union (AM and PM) – Service approximately every 15 minutes
  • NX N Judah Express – Service approximately every 20 minutes

No Service

  • 81X Caltrain Express
  • 82X Caltrain Express
  • 83X Caltrain Express
  • 88 BART Shuttle

 

Parking Enforcement for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day

This and next Thursday: Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, parking meters and seven day street sweeping will not be enforced citywide, including The Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf areas.

Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and MondayFriday street sweeping will not be enforced on both days.

Parking meters on The Embarcadero and at Fisherman’s Wharf, are enforced seven days per week throughout the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Parking meters in the remainder of the City are enforced Monday through Saturday throughout the year except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Hazards are always subject to ticketing and towing.

Critical Mass

On Friday, December 26:  At 6 p.m., the Critical Mass bicycle ride will begin at Justin Herman Plaza.

There will be heavy traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
