Treasure Island Ramp Reopened After Fatal Crash of Fleeing Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers died this afternoon after crashing on the Interstate 80 on-ramp from Treasure Island, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist was first spotted by a CHP motorcycle unit around 1:10 p.m. when he went through the toll plaza on a bike with no plates, according to CHP Officer Vu Williams.

The motorcyclist sped away when the officer attempted a stop, rode to San Francisco and then immediately turned around and went east again on the bridge.

Pursuing officers lost him there when he apparently exited to Treasure Island, but another officer spotted him on the island a short time later and resumed the pursuit.

The motorcyclist crashed on the westbound on-ramp to Interstate 80 just before the eastbound/westbound split, Williams said.

He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was declared dead of his injuries.

The ramp remained closed until shortly before 5 p.m.
