Bad Elmo to Appear in Court Today

A 50-year-old man known to many as “Bad Elmo” is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a bail hearing after his arrest in San Francisco last month on criminal threat and public nuisance charges, according to a district attorney’s office spokesman.

Daniel Sandler, a street performer who dresses up as Sesame Street’s furry red Elmo character in cities including San Francisco and New York City, was arrested and charged with one count of felony criminal threats and three misdemeanor counts of public nuisance on Oct. 24.

Sandler is in custody with bail set at $250,000. His bail hearing is set for 9 a.m. Thursday in Department 12 at the San Francisco Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St.
