A man who was arrested on a bus after allegedly stabbing a Glide Memorial Church staff member on Monday was identified by San Francisco police today as an Oakland man.
The man, Stenis Lowery, 29, allegedly attacked a staff member and stabbed him in the shoulder inside the church at 330 Ellis St. at about 10 a.m., police Officer Gordon Shyy said.
The 43-year-old victim was treated by church staff members until paramedics arrived and he was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, Shyy said.
Lowery fled but was located a short time later on board a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus near the corner of Sixth and Market streets, Shyy said.
He was booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant, Shyy said.
Glide has operated in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood for more than 80 years, providing numerous social services and support.
“We are saddened by this occurrence and we continue to be committed to making our environment safe and welcoming as we serve San Francisco’s most vulnerable communities,” Glide officials said in a statement Monday.
