Candlestick Park is closing its doors for good but not before one last hoorah.
Sir Paul McCartney will perform at the San Francisco stadium tonight as part of his “Out There” tour. It will be the last public event at the stadium.
The 14.5-acre park served as the home for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers for decades.
Built in 1960, the stadium expanded in 1969 to seat 62,000 people during football games and 59,000 people during baseball games. An additional 8,000 seats were added later.
The park will be demolished to make way for a 1.1 million-square-foot development project.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has announced special Muni service for tonight’s concert at Candlestick Park.
The special service will include lines from the Balboa Park BART station to Candlestick Park, the Embarcadero station to Gilman Avenue and Third Street and Gilman Avenue and Third Street to Candlestick Park.
The special service will run from 4:30 p.m. until the end of the concert. The concert is expected to start around 8 p.m. and be over by 11:30 p.m.
The SFMTA is also reminding concertgoers the last Bart train toward the East Bay will leave the Balboa Park station at 12:12 a.m.
The last train toward Millbrae will leave the Balboa Park station at 12:45 a.m.
