An elderly woman inside a residence was injured by flying glass during a shooting on the streets of San Francisco’s Bayview District this afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.
At about 4:10 p.m., a ShotSpotter activation occurred and 911 calls began coming into police reporting that a 80-year-old woman may have been injured as a result of flying glass after a bullet struck a window, police spokeswoman Danielle Newman said.
Fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said the shooting was reported near Third Street and Revere Avenue.
The victim was able to climb down a flight of stairs and report her injuries to a building manager who called police, Newman said.
The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to Newman.
An employee at the Bayview branch public library, located at that intersection, said police had blocked off the street.
Newman said that a hit-and-run vehicle collision had been reported at Thomas and Lane streets, about two blocks away, around the same time.
A vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene traveling north on Third Street. That vehicle was then involved in a second collision at Third and Revere streets, Newman said.
The occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot, but were detained by police, according to Newman.
Investigators have not determined whether the fleeing vehicle and its occupants were involved in the shooting.
No arrests had been made as of this evening, Newman said.
