Richmond Station Closed After BART Train Strikes And Kills Person On Tracks

One person was killed after a patron was struck by a train at the Richmond BART station this afternoon, according to a BART spokeswoman.

While the exact time of the collision remains unclear, an alert went out around 4:35 p.m., according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.

BART police and fire officials are on the scene and waiting for the coroner, Trost said.

The Richmond BART station remains closed while the death is investigated, Trost said.

The El Cerrito del Norte station was closed initially but has reopened.

All trains are turning back at El Cerrito del Norte and riders are encouraged to either go directly to that station or use AC Transit Bus 72, which connects the Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte stations.
