Teen Duo Arrested on Suspicion of Illegally Selling Fireworks

Plainclothes officers bought illegal fireworks from an unsuspecting 18-year-old man and a juvenile in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood Monday night, according to a police spokeswoman.

The pair allegedly sold the illegal explosive devices to officers around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of Grant Street, police spokeswoman Sgt. Danielle Newman said.

The 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old Eric Au Yeung, of San Francisco, were arrested after the sale, Newman said.

Au Yeung was arrested on suspicion of sales or transport of destructive devices, conspiracy, child endangerment and committing a crime while out on bail, Newman said.

The child endangerment count comes from working with the 15-year-old boy, who is considered a juvenile, Newman said.

Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, San Francisco police are reminding residents that purchasing, selling or possessing any fireworks is illegal.

A fireworks display will be held at San Francisco’s Pier 39 on Friday night for Independence Day.
