12:40 PM: The Pleasant Hill BART station has reopened after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train there this morning, an agency spokeswoman said.
The fatal collision happened around 10:05 a.m. when a pedestrian on the tracks at the station in unincorporated Walnut Creek was struck by a train headed for San Francisco International Airport, according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.
BART police responded and located the person, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trost said BART police are continuing to interview witnesses and will review station camera footage to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
BART police had closed the station after the collision and reopened it a short time after noon.
There were still delays of about 15 to 30 minutes on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line between the Lafayette and Pleasant Hill stations as of 12:30 p.m., according to Trost.
10:48 AM: A person was struck by a train at the Pleasant Hill BART station this morning, shutting down the station and prompting service delays, according to BART police.
Officers were notified that a pedestrian had been struck by a train at the Pleasant Hill station at 1365 Treat Blvd. in unincorporated Walnut Creek around 10:05 a.m., according to BART police Lt. Terance McCarty.
The person’s condition was not immediately known, McCarty said.
Trains are single-tracking through the area but are not stopping at the Pleasant Hill station.
