Two Arrested Following Shooting Near Playground

Two suspects were arrested after shots were fired in the vicinity of Gilman Playground near Candlestick Park on Saturday night, police said.

At about 11:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Ingerson Avenue, police said.

Upon arriving the area, officers heard a gunshot ring out in the vicinity of the Gilman Playground, according to police.

Officers saw that the playground was empty, but that two people were walking away.

When the officers called out to the two people, one of the suspects stopped and complied with the officers. The other suspect took off running, police said.

One officer stayed with the first suspect while another officer pursued the fleeing suspect. Additional officers responded to the scene and the suspect that fled was found hiding in nearby bushes.

A .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun was located in the bushes behind the suspect who was hiding, police said.

The suspect who initially complied with police, was searched and found to be in possession of a loaded magazine, officers said.

Both suspects were taken into custody. A gunshot residue test of their hands and clothing was conducted at the Bayview Police Station and the suspects were arrested, police said.

Both suspects were booked on weapons violations, police said.

No victims or damage to property was located during a search of the area, according to police.
