Some residents of San Francisco’s Lower Nob Hill neighborhood were evacuated this morning after a construction crew hit an underground gas line, fire and utility officials said.
The incident was reported at 10:52 a.m. at Sutter and Jones streets, San Francisco fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
PG&E crews responded to the scene at 11:10 a.m. and learned that a 2-inch plastic main had been struck by a third-party construction crew, utility spokesman Jason King said.
The incident resulted in a small gas leak, and four buildings at the intersection were evacuated, King said.
Nearby streets have been shut down, he said.
The flow of gas is expected to be stopped around 12:15 p.m., he said.
No injuries have been reported.
