Woman And Daughter Victims Of Murder-Suicide Identified

The San Francisco medical examiner’s office today identified a woman who police said shot her elderly mother and then herself in an apparent murder-suicide in the city’s Western Addition neighborhood on Monday night.

Celeste Moreno, 60, and her 93-year-old mother Amy Moreno were found dead at about 8:15 p.m. Monday inside the Central Gardens skilled nursing facility at 1355 Ellis St.

Celeste Moreno came around 5:30 p.m. that day to visit her mother. When staff at the facility went to check up on the pair, they found both dead of gunshot wounds, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Shyy said it appeared the daughter shot her mother, then turned the gun on herself. He said the door to Amy Moreno’s room had been closed during the visit and Central Gardens staff were not aware anything was wrong.

Central Gardens is a private 92-bed facility that opened in 1963, according to its website.
