Shooting Suspects Evade Capture After Freeway Chase And Crash

Police in San Francisco today continue to search for three shooting suspects who ran away from a crash scene after leading officers on a chase into South San Francisco Tuesday night.

The shooting incident was reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first block of Lucy Street. Responding officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

During the subsequent investigation, Shyy said officers were able to identify a suspect in the shooting.

At about 10 p.m., police spotted the suspect in a silver SUV in the area of Palou Avenue and Hawes Street in the Bayview District, Shyy said.

When officers tried to pull the SUV over, the car fled on southbound U.S. Highway 101 with police in pursuit until it collided with another car near the junction of 101 and Interstate Highway 380 in South San Francisco, Shyy said.

Shyy said multiple suspects took off running while the driver was taken into custody. Police found multiple guns in the SUV, Shyy said.

The other three suspects remain at large in the area around the highway and police are using dogs to search for them tonight, Shyy said.

The driver of the second vehicle in the crash suffered minor injuries. The two shooting victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their conditions are unknown.
