A two-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood on Tuesday caused more than $750,000 in damage to two buildings, a fire department spokeswoman said today.
The blaze was reported at 1:25 p.m. in the 300 block of Walnut Street, between Sacramento and Clay streets.
No injuries were reported in the fire, which was extinguished at 2:46 p.m., fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
The fire started in a home at 314 Walnut St. and spread to an adjacent duplex at 310-312 Walnut St., Talmadge said.
The blaze caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the structure of 314 Walnut and $10,000 in damage to property inside. There was more extensive damage next door, where firefighters opened up the roof to ventilate the blaze, Talmadge said.
She said there was an estimated $400,000 in damage to the second building, and $100,000 in contents was destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Talmadge said.
Neighbors at the scene Tuesday said the home at 314 Walnut had been under construction, and building permits filed with the city show an interior remodeling project has been going on there since last June.
However, Talmadge said she could not confirm whether there was construction under way at the time of the fire.
