SF Giants Dole Out Education Grants To Bay Area Schools

The San Francisco Giants have partnered with Wells Fargo to provide $100,000 in education grants to 25 Bay Area schools.

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford and bank representatives presented the checks to principals, teachers and students at a ceremony at AT&T Park this morning. The checks were for amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

The event was part of the “Step Up to the Plate for Education” program, in which schools from Oakland, Antioch, Fairfield, Menlo Park, Napa, Redwood City, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa and other cities are receiving funding to support athletics and other school programming.

The schools—which include parochial, independent and public schools—were nominated by community members earlier this year. Schools could also apply for grants online.

At today’s event, attendees were able to take a photograph with Crawford after a breakfast at the stadium.
