A man accused of fatally shooting another man over a PlayStation 4 game console in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood last week pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of murder and attempted robbery, according to the district attorney’s office.
Ronnie Collins, 21, is accused of shooting 22-year-old Ikenna Uwakah at about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 near Mendell Street and Galvez Avenue.
Called a “Christmastime predator” by prosecutors, Collins is alleged to have killed Uwakah after arranging over the social media app Instagram to buy a PS4 from Uwakah’s girlfriend.
The couple refused to have Collins meet the girlfriend alone and they agreed to meet near a Walgreens store on Third Street in the Bayview neighborhood.
Collins approached their car near the Youngblood-Coleman playground and allegedly pointed a gun at Uwakah, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Uwakah offered to give Collins the PS4, but instead Collins allegedly fired four shots at him.
Uwakah was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with wounds to both arms and his torso. He died later that day, according to prosecutors.
Investigators tracked down Collins over Instagram to a home on Underwood Avenue. Collins tried to flee but was taken into custody and evidence was found on his cellphone, prosecutors said.
Collins is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 3.
