San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty filed papers this morning to run for mayor in 2011.
Dufty is serving his second and final term as supervisor of District 8, which includes the Castro, Noe Valley and Glen Park neighborhoods.

Dufty, a former aide to Mayor Willie Brown, is considered one of the board’s moderate members and is often allied with current Mayor Gavin Newsom.

As supervisor, he has worked on issues including public safety, solar power projects, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights, same-sex marriage, and HIV/AIDS program funding.

Dufty recently sided with seven other supervisors, and split with Newsom, on the high-profile issue of reforming the city’s sanctuary policy. Dufty supports a proposal to allow undocumented juveniles arrested for felonies not to be reported to federal immigration authorities until conviction.

Only one other person, Antonio Mims, has officially filed for the Nov. 8, 2011, mayoral election, according to the Elections Department.
