A week of events to help engage, excite and educate Bay Area drivers about the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars is scheduled to begin this morning in San Francisco.
Charge Across Town is heading into three cities in five days as part of EV Week 2013: San Francisco to Silicon Valley, according to event officials.
Today and Tuesday, drivers will be able to take free rides in an electric vehicle along The Embarcadero in San Francisco from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will also be an electric vehicle expo from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days in Justin Herman Plaza.
Mayor Ed Lee will speak at the plaza, located at the foot of Market Street, today at 11:30 a.m. to kick off EV Week.
Wednesday, the rides will be available in Palo Alto at City Hall Plaza from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The rides will conclude in San Jose at Santana Row on Thursday and Friday from noon to 7 p.m.
The week is part of an attempt to reach Gov. Jerry Brown’s goal of getting 1.5 million zero-emission cars on California’s roadways by 2025.
