Man Bashed In Head During Unprovoked Main Library Attack

A man was arrested after allegedly hitting another man with a chair as he sat at a computer terminal at the San Francisco Main Library on Wednesday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said today.

Clifton Moore, 25, was arrested for the unprovoked attack, which was reported at about 2:55 p.m. at the library at 100 Larkin St., police spokeswoman Sgt. Danielle Newman said.

The 61-year-old victim was sitting at a computer when he felt something strike him on the right side of his head, then fell to the ground and saw blood, Newman said.

The victim did not see who hit him, but several witnesses said it was Moore who struck him with a chair, Newman said.

Moore was detained by library security until police arrived and arrested him on suspicion of aggravated assault and assault causing great bodily injury, according to Newman.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, Newman said.
