Double Parkers Beware: Supe Wiener’s Got You In His Crosshairs

A San Francisco supervisor is calling for a hearing on the issue of motorists double parking on city streets.

Supervisor Scott Wiener announced that he plans at this afternoon’s board meeting to call for a hearing on double parking—particularly a lack of enforcement against it and its impact on traffic in San Francisco.

“Double parking causes unnecessary traffic jams, and a single car, truck, or taxi double-parked on a Muni route can disrupt an entire transit line,” Wiener said in a statement. “We need adequate enforcement to improve traffic flow in our city.”

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency officials will be asked to attend the hearing and provide a report on traffic impacts, enforcement policies and citation statistics for double parking.

The hearing would take place at a future date before the board’s land use and economic development committee.
