A Japan Airlines flight headed to San Francisco on Monday night had to turn around mid-flight because of a mechanical problem, an airline spokeswoman said.

Japan Airlines Flight 2, a Boeing 777, had departed from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport but returned several hours after takeoff because of a hydraulic issue, spokeswoman Carol Anderson said.

The passengers were placed on a different flight, and all arrived safely at San Francisco International Airport this morning, Anderson said.

The aircraft has since been repaired and inspected and is back in service, she said.

The flight had originally departed at midnight Tuesday, Tokyo time, according to the airline.
