Robber Threatens Victim With Allegedly HIV-Infected Needle

A man claiming to be HIV-positive threatened a store employee with a hypodermic needle during a robbery on San Francisco’s Polk Street on Sunday morning, police said today.

The suspect, a man believed to be between 45 and 50 years old, walked into a store in the 1000 block of Polk, which is near Geary, at about 10:30 a.m., grabbed a soda and then walked out, according to police.

The 72-year-old female employee chased after the suspect, who turned around with the needle in his hand, pointed it at her and said he was HIV-positive and would stab her with the needle if she kept chasing him, police said.

He then fled with the soda and had not been caught as of this morning, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
